Dr. John Ch’ng

Dr. Ch’ng is from Penang, a small island in the Indian Ocean off the west coast of Malaysia. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Singapore, School of Medicine in 1977. In 1979 he was awarded membership of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom. He did research at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School in London, England, before completing an endocrinology and metabolism fellowship at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. While training in clinical endocrinology, he also conducted independent research in various aspects of endocrine diseases.

In 1989 he was appointed to the faculty at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN, where he served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Director of the Endocrinology Clinic until 1995. He joined Endocrinology Diabetes Associates in 1995. Dr. Ch’ng practices full time at our St. Thomas office. He sees patients Monday THROUGH friday from 8:30am to 4:45pm.

Dr. Ch’ng is certified in both internal medicine and endocrinology and metabolism by the American Board of Internal Medicine. His special interests are in osteoporosis, diabetes, thyroid diseases, and endocrine tumors.

Dr. John McRae

Dr. John McRae is from Augusta, Georgia. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1968 and Duke University School of Medicine in 1972. He completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Duke Hospital in 1975.

After serving in the US Army as an internist from 1975-1977, he completed fellowship training in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Seattle, WA Hospital in 1979.

He was a member of the Diabetes Division, Department of Medicine,Vanderbilt Medical Center from 1981-1985 and is presently an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt. Dr. McRae practices full time at our St. Thomas office. He sees patients Monday THROUGH friday from 8:30am to 4:45pm.

Dr. McRae is board certified in Internal Medicine and in Endocrinology and Metabolism.

Dr. James Gaume

Dr. Gaume was born in rural Kansas in 1950. He graduated with a BS in Biology from Loyola University of Los Angeles in 1972 and received his MD from the University of Southern California in 1976.

Dr. Gaume completed his training in Internal Medicine and in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Los Angeles County-USC-Medical Center in 1981. He practiced endocrinology from 1981-1990 in the Los Angeles area before moving to Nashville to join Endocrinology-Diabetes Associates. Dr. Gaume practices full time at our St. Thomas office. He sees patients Monday THROUGH friday from 8:30am to 4:45pm.

He is presently an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt. Dr. Gaume is board certified in Internal Medicine and in Endocrinology and Metabolism.


 Dr. Emily P. Neely

Dr. Emily P. Neely joined Endocrinology-Diabetes Associates in January of 2013. Dr. Neely is a graduate of UNC- Chapel Hill North Carolina. She did her Residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

Dr. Neely practices full time at our St. Thomas office. She sees patients Monday THROUGH friday from 8:30am to 4:45pm. She specializes in all types of endocrine care. She is the proud mother of two wonderful daughters. She loves to hike with her family in her spare time.

Brenda Baxter

Brenda Baxter is a Nurse Practitioner specializing in diabetes management. She moved from California to Nashville in 2004 and received her Master’s degree in Nursing from Vanderbilt University in 2007. Brenda is a Certified Diabetes Educator receiving this designation in 2013. Brenda practices full time at our St. Thomas office. She sees patients Monday THROUGH friday from 8:30am to 4:45pm.

She enjoys cooking, rugby, stand up paddleboarding and discussing insulin resistance with anyone who is willing to listen.
